Corporate Culture Key to Success with Analytics

New research released today by MIT Sloan Management Review and the IBM Institute for Business Value (NYSE: IBM) reports that organizational challenges, more so than technology hurdles, are holding companies back from fully integrating analytics across their enterprises.

According to a global survey of more than 4,500 executives, managers and analysts from more than 120 countries and 30 industries, 44 percent of organizations say cultural barriers to enterprise-wide analytics adoption, such as the requirement for new leadership competencies and organizational resistance to new ideas, are the primary barriers. Businesses met a new, gushing current this year: the deepening recession. A variety of sources tell me that the financial crisis will be 2009′s primary driver, as trends from early this year accelerate.

In general, this is a time for Business Intelligence to show what it can do. Organizations with mature Business Intelligence will put it to the test as they decide who or what to cut and how to gain or maintain a competitive edge. Meanwhile, a surge of latecomers will show up looking for quick analysis, and the lucky ones will produce good results.
